Objectives

To understand the relation between the origin of calligraphy and the design of a typeface;
To understand the letterings as a drawing process of the type design;

To understand printing with movable type as the root of digital typography;
To understand the differences of historical and formal typefaces;
To develop critical thinking and analysis that allows to search for relevant and innovative solutions;

Guidelines

During this intense week, participants will be supervised by two or more tutors that will be presenting contents and actively participate in the project developments. Participants will design primary sudies of calligraphy with broad nib, pointed nib and brush; Participants will do lettering interpretations from the calligraphic process; create digital drawing of letters; and produce basic tools for the development of digital type design.
