Alexandra Abreu

Alexandra Abreu

Alexandra Abreu, attended courses, internships and projects developed in various areas of ceramics and glass abroad (Greece, France and Germany) and in Portugal. She has participated in several group exhibitions such and “Ceramic on Fifth St. Miguel”, and the “Tile Museum”. She has also participated in national competitions and received several honours. Professionally she worked as a designer of ceramics and glass. She’s  undertaking her PhD in the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Since 2006 she has been a lecturer at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha , in the areas of technology ceramics and glass.

Ana Romana

Ana Romana

Ana Romana has an honour degree in Painting, from the College of Fine Art, in Lisbon, a  M.A. in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, in the U.K. and she is currently a PhD student in Book arts at the Algarve University. She has exhibited regularly since 1996 in Portugal (at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Centro Cultural de Belém, Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, among others) and abroad. She received grants from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Artworks Wales and Pollock-Krasner Foundation.
She lectured in Évora University in 2003/05 and since 2007 she has been a lecturer at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha

Aprígio Morgado

Aprígio Morgado

Aprígio Morgado has a Degree in Graphic Design by IADE and a post-graduation in Design from the Faculty of Architecture (FA). Currently he is a Ph.D. student at FA, where he teaches Graphic Design and conducts research on the legibility of typography in Portuguese language. Since 2009 he has lectured Typography and Graphic Design at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha.  Recently, he has taught Typography and Layout at ESTAL. He began his career in 1996, having collaborated with some of the most respected branding agencies in Portugal.

Davide Etxeberria

David Etxeberria

David Etxeberria is a visual artist with a degree in Fine Arts from the School of Art and Design of Caldas da Rainha, a Master Degree in Contemporary Culture and New Technologies at the New University of Lisbon. He is currently finishing his PhD. on the intersections between art and science in the Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon. He has explored visual arts and researched the intersections between culture and new technologies, including the ethical responsibility of the bioartist. He has exhibited individually since the late 90s and is represented in national and international collections.

Diogo Saldanha

Diogo Saldanha

Diogo Saldanha has a background in architecture and has been dedicated to artistic photography practice since 1990. He has lectured at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha, since 1996 and has introduced the teaching of photography at this school. He’is also the author of several publications within the artistic and research areas where the main object of study is the place of the photographic making and its importance in artistic creation.

Emanuel Brás

Emanuel Brás

Emanuel Brás is a photographer and a Lecturer at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha. He is completing a Ph.D. at the University of Plymouth, UK. His work has been progressively concerned with the tension between the representations of nature within landscape –visual art, cultural medium- and the concreteness of the contemporary territories. His recent solo exhibitions include: “reservatório de mutações” (reservoir of mutations), at the “Museu do Neo-Realismo”, Vila Franca de Xira, 2012; “lugares de afecção” (places of affection), Encontros da Imagem (International photo festival) 2010, Braga (Portugal). His work is represented in several Portuguese private and public collections.

Fernando Carradas

Fernando Carradas

Designer and ceramist, Bachelor of Design and Technology for Ceramics and Degree in Urban Furniture Design. Dean of the degree course in Ceramics and Glass Design. Lecturer of ceramics and ceramic design in several Degrees and Masters. Experience in organizational management in the public system of higher education. President of the technical and scientific committe for Ceramic and Glass Design Degree. Portuguese commissioner for the European Ceramic Context 2010, in Denmark. Integrates research projects: INEDIC-Innovation and EcoDesign in the Ceramic Industry and “www.RotasdeCerâmica.pt – project for Industrial, Scientific and Cultural Tourism.” Jury Member of several editions of “Young Designer Contest” ICEP. Participation in national and international exhibitions of Design and Artistic Ceramics.

Guilherme Mendonça

Guilherme Mendonça

A theatre practitioner with experience in drama opera and film Guilherme Mendonça holds a PhD in dramaturgy from Brunel University. He has worked both in the theatre and in teaching in Portugal, England and Mozambique. Amongst his published work there are essays, a theatre play and poetry.

João Decq

João Decq

JoaoDecq is currently a PHD student in Artes Visuales e Intermedia, in Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain. In 2008 achieved Diploma de estudos avanzados in Artes Visuales e Intermedia, by U. Politécnica de Valencia, Spain. In 2002 achieved the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honors, by the University of Central England (U.C.E.).
Teaches printing in Ecola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha since 2003. He Is responsible for ESAD.CR’s print-room since 2007.
Exhibits regularly since 1999, with is works being represented in public collections such as Presidência do Governo Regional dos Açores. Museu Carlos Machado, Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Grande, A.I.P. Associação Industrial Portuguesa, BancoSabadell Foundation.

Luís Aguiar

Luís Aguiar

Luís Aguiar has a degree in Fine Arts from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha, where he developed some of its theoretical and practical projects in photography and art. He lectures black & white analogue photography and digital photography. He holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Visual Arts and Intermédia from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain. He exhibits individually as well as collectively. 

Marco Correia

Marco Correia

Marco Nunes Correia holds a degree in Communication Design, of  FBAUL (1998). He specialized in scientific illustration, and he started his activity in Pedro Salgado’s studio, where he worked and trained for two years (1997/99). He works as a freelancer in the areas of scientific illustration, of communication design and education, being a lecturer in the Masters of scientific illustration of ISEC /EU, of ESAP -Guimarães and in the specialization course in graphic illustration of the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha. Marta de Menezes

Marta de Menezes

Marta de Menezes is a Portuguese artist with a degree in Fine Arts by the University in Lisbon, a MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture by the University of Oxford, and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Leiden. She has been exploring the intersection between Art and Biology, working in research laboratories demonstrating that new biological technologies can be used as new art medium. She is currently the artistic director of Ectopia, an experimental art laboratory within a biological research institute – the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência – in Lisbon, and Director of Cultivamos Cultura in the South of Portugal.

Marta Soares

Marta Soares

Marta Soares was born in Lisboa, in 1973. She lives and works in Lisboa and Caldas da Rainha. She is a lecturer at the School of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha and at School of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon. Since 1997 she holds a MA and a MFA Degrees in Painting and she’s currently finishing her Ph.D. in Painting (Practical and Theoretical). She works in Painting and, since 2009, she is developing a Project involving local artistic rituals and agricultural procedures with autochtonous populations from the Obidos region.

Exhibits individually since the beginning of the 90s and is, nationally and internationally, represented in collections .

 

Nuno Fragata

Nuno Fragata

Nuno Fragata holds a Bachelor and Masters degree in Fine Arts, and a Bachelor in Graphic Design. He’ is currently undertaking his Ph.D. in the Art Studies field at the University of Aveiro. He’has been a lecturer at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha since 2008, teaching Drawing, Printing Techniques, Illustration for Design, Story Telling and Comics, Digital Tools, Graphic Design History. He’ is also the course coordinator of the Graphic Illustration Technological Specialization Course (CET). He produces and publishes work in Animation, illustration and Comics. In 2000, he was awarded with the 1st prize of the Festival Amadora BD, and in 2008 he was awarded by the Portuguese Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) for the production and direction of a short animated feature “Só”, completed in 2012.

Paulo Ramalho

Paulo Ramalho

Paulo Vieira Ramalho MA(RCA), is a lecturer of Graphic Design and Multimedia at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha. He has been teaching Communication Design, Typography and Typographic History for the last 12 years. Member of the organizing committee and Graphic Designer of the Congress ICOGRADA 95 (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) – Lisbon, he worked for some of the main design studios in Portugal and developed activity as a freelancer, both in Graphic Design and New Media. Bewteen 1996 and 1998, he was chief typographer for the signage project of Expo’98 – Lisbon. He was the founding member of the New Media Division of BBDO Portugal and he participates actively in Conferences on Typography and Book History both as a Speaker and as a Referee.

Pedro Letria

Pedro Letria

Pedro Letria is a portuguese artist whose work reflects upon issues of displacement and belonging. Mirroring his own multi-cultural trajectory, his photographs have been widely published and Pedro Letria is the author of several monographs. His work has been exhibited in venues such as the Centro Cultural de Belém, Portugal; Fundación Foto Colectanea in Barcelona, Spain; Parc de La Villette, Paris, France; Galeria Olido in São Paulo, Brazil and the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany. His work is part of European public and private collections, such as the Portuguese Center of Photography, CAV, in Portugal and the BES Art Collection. With a B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pedro Letria is a Fulbright scholar and a RISD M.F.A. Photography graduate. He has taught at ESAD.CR since 2000.

Ricardo Santos

Ricardo Santos

Ricardo Santos is type designer and a lecturer in typography at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha.  Ricardo holds a Graphic Design degree from IADE (Lisboa) and a Masters in Advanced Typography from the Escola Eina, Barcelona, Spain. Since 1997, he has worked as graphic designer, and in 2000 created his own foundry (Vanarchiv) and has published his fonts at Myfonts, Fountain and Fontshop Internacional, such as: FTN Lisboa (best of 2005), Van Condensed, Atlantica.
In 2011 he founded with his colleagues Luis Alonso (Espanha) and Charlie Zinno (Argentina) the collective international typographic the Tiponautas, present at Myfonts and Linotype.

Rúben Dias

Rúben Dias

Rùben Dias holds a Design degree from IADE since 2002. His route passes through the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, University of Reading and he is currently undertaking his PhD on the fonts of the Royal Portuguese, at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon. He lectures typography and type design at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha and at ESTAL. He investigates and writes regularly about the history and evolution of typography in Portugal. He regularly presents articles in conferences. He coordinates workshops typography and design types, particularly in the Letterpress Workshop in Center for Art and Visual Communication – Ar.Co. He works as a graphic designer and designs fonts in the studio ItemZero.com.

Sérgio Gonçalves

Sérgio Gonçalves

Sérgio Gonçalves is a Ph.D. student in Product Design – Polytechnic University of Valencia (PUV)- Spain. He holds an advanced Studies Diploma in Methods and Techniques of Industrial and Graphic Design – PUV. He has a Specialist Degree in Methods and Techniques of Industrial and Graphic Design- PUV and a Masters in Industrial Design from Oporto University. He also holds a Degree in Industrial Design  from the School of Technology, Management, Art and Design of Caldas da Rainha.  He has lectured at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha since 2001, having taught in the Industrial Design Degree and in the Product Design Masters.

Vera Gonçalves

Vera Gonçalves

Vera Gonçalves participated in national and internacional competitions in Lisbon, Porto, Leiria, Évora ,Óvidos,Vila Nova de Cerveira, Madrid and Paris and received an honours degree in Printmaking and Fotoetching.

Professionally she has worked as a technical trainer in techniques of silkscreen printing in Portugal, Espanha, Hungria e Polónia. She has exhibited regularly since 1998 in Portugal (Estampa 2006 XIV edición, Salón Internacional Del Grabado Y Ediciones De Arte Contemporâneo in Madrid; XIV Bienal de Gravura in Paris; Novos Criadores 2008 in Óbidos Proximo Passo,Galeria Cubic in Lisbon ; Galeria Zé dos Bois – Global super 8 day, in Lisbon) and abroad. Since 2004 she has performed the duties of Technician at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha in the areas of Printmaking and Etching.
